We are pleased to finally release the report from the Phase 1 consultation activities. The link to this report will shortly be sent out to everyone that filled in the Phase 1 survey, everyone that contacted us through this website, and others that are on our database from the Phase 1 visits, etc. We would sincerely appreciate any feedback on this report, and the entire process of the consultation phase to date, before close of business on June the 10th, 2011. This will allow us to consider all feedback before finalising the content and strategy for the planned video-conference Phase 2 consultation sessions from July onwards. Thank you, and blessings, from the IIA Board.

We are happy to report that the first round of consultations are nearly finished (Perth will be 21/11/10) including an enthusiastic group in New Zealand. We would like to offer our hearty thanks to those who have supported this process around the region.  We have received great encouragement and hands-on, practical support, wherever we have travelled.

We are now in the position of having a research committee, taking us closer to being able to apply for DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status, that will allow us to offer supporters the opportunity to claim tax deductions for their monetary support.

25/10/2010

The Perth consultation is planned for Sunday 21st of November at ‘emrgnc’ www.atthespace.org/location.htm  in Fremantle. If you are interested in coming along please email Don Adlam don@integralinstitute.org.au.

Adam conducted the New Zealand consultation on the weekend, and tells us that there was a high level of interest.  We are really appreciating the positive response we are receiving as we move around the region.

The IIA Board will be holding the AGM on Sunday 28th November, followed by a day of reviewing the data from the consultation process. We plan to release a summary as soon as we can after the meeting.  We will also then be able to make some announcements about our course of action for the new year.

30/9/2010

The New Zealand consultation has been organised for the afternoon of Sunday 24th October in Auckland. If you wish to attend please send an email to adam@integralinstitute.com for further information.

We are also in the process of initiating the Perth consultation. More news shortly.

We would like to thank all you who have already contacted us, or completed the online survey.  We are looking forward to completing our first round of consultations in the very near future.

Once this is done, we undertake the process of creating a strategy for creating a genuinely integral body to serve you into the future.  We hope to be bringing this strategy to you, for your feedback, in a second round of consultations in the early new year.

We look forward to seeing many of you again then, and incorporating your input into this venture.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been to Brisbane for their first consultation. Thank you to Terry Bishop for organising the event and thank you to Cate Crombie for allowing us to use your home.

We are starting to see a trend in the data we are collecting and hope to have a board meeting in Oct-Nov period to review the data and progress on the consultation. After that meeting we will post on the website a summary of the findings so far.

Adam Fletcher will be in New Zealand for a consultation sometime in October but dates are yet to be confirmed.

23/8/2010

The Sydney consultation was completed Sunday 22/8/10, thank you to the enthusiastic group in attendance and a big thank you to Trish Nowland for organising the event.

We will be holding the Adelaide consultation on Wed 25/8/10 at the Rosefield Uniting Church, 2 Carlton St Highgate.

The Brisbane consultation will be held on Wed 1/9/10, location to be advised very soon.

As a board we are establishing a research committee to satisfy our DGR status. Several people have been approached and it will take a few more months before the committee is finalised.

IIA Board meeting held last week with much of our discussion focussing on the consultation process.

10/8/2010

A reminder that the Sydney consultation is on Sunday 22/8/10, Adelaide 25/8/10 and Brisbane 1/9/10 (to be confirmed), and we are in the process of making arrangements for Perth & New Zealand (depending on numbers).

Our trip to the US for the Integral Theory Conference was fantastic. Adam, Don and I (John) met with Ken Wilber, along with his team in Denver, to discuss progress in Australia. He was very generous with his time and it was great just to experience his presence. We left them with a few gifts to remind them of Australia. We also had a very useful and enjoyable discussion with Robb Smith (CEO). Our thanks to all the folk (including Susanne Cook-Greuter and Jeff Saltzman) who generously gave their time to talk to us about starting IIA.

The conference was an interesting 3 day affair.  I started each day meditating with Diane Hamilton, and then trying to choose from the wide range of Integral topics and speakers. The key note address by Dr Robert Kegan was a highlight, as was the chance to mix with so many integrally minded people.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Integral Institute Australasia in WA for their help with our ongoing project of securing Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status for the Integral Institute Australia.  The journey is made that much easier when assisted by those who have travelled the road before.

Thank you to the 24 brave souls who took on the chilly Melb winter and came to the first Australian consultation meeting last week. We are such a fascinating collection of individuals! The feedback was great and we are likely to tweak a few small things for Sydney.

We have now confirmed the Sydney consultation. Please come along and have your say at the Buddhist Library & Meditation Centre, 90-92 Church Street Camperdown on Sunday 22/8/10 1.30-3.30pm. A small donation of $2-5 for the venue and the chance to meet integrally minded folk.

Who’s going to the Integral Conference? Adam, Don and John are going and hope to say ‘hi’ to many Aussies.

Hi all, welcome to our fortnightly update for IIA. There have been a few movements in the institute and announcements regarding the commencement of the consultation process to create the foundation of service to the integral community.

New Board Appointment

We are really pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Jennifer Gidley to the board of IIA. Jennifer will commence duties when she returns from overseas in a few weeks. Jennifer’s bio is now on our website and she replaces Chris Woodhouse who stepped down as a director a month ago. Our sincere thanks to Chris for his dedicated service during the ‘set up’ phase of IIA.

Consultation Process Begins

The consultation process to establish the needs of the Australian/New Zealand integral community is about to start. The Melbourne consultation is Wednesday night 7th July 7pm at the Augustine Centre, 2 Minona St, Hawthorne, Alexander Room, please come along and have your say.

The first round of consultation will include a brief presentation on the history of IIA so far, Q&A, and a semi structured discussion to scope the community’s needs and expectations.

Watch this space for dates for the Sydney consultation process to begin soon.

Who’s going to the Integral Theory conference in San Francisco? Three of us will be attending and meeting with Integral Institute US to discuss our progress and their plans for the future.

Keep an eye out for our update every 2 weeks.

The following two excerpts are from Robb’s February 3, 2010, letter to our board:

“I am writing today to grant “Integral Institute Australia” the status of representing “Integral Institute Global” in Australia on a probationary basis in order to conduct a thorough process of II-sanctioned in-country research.  This research will be designed to solicit critical feedback from multiple stakeholders throughout Australia who are current or prospective integral community participants, sponsors, scholars, practitioners, providers and teachers.  In short, we are endorsing the idea that if Australia is going to be the first true formally-recognized international chapter of Integral Institute Global, we need the on-the-ground data to inform the most appropriate form, function and relational status of II Australia.”

“I will ask that II Australia keep II Global apprised of progress and that the plan and project managers for the market consultation process make the process transparent by allowing anyone from around the integral community in Australia to offer feedback and see the results of the aggregate research at key milestones as they are reached.  Ken and I both believe that this approach is preferred because it allows Integral Institute Australasia and others to publicly and explicitly provide feedback into the overall recommendation so the broadest organizational synthesis might be achieved.  Dissent can also be viewed, weighed and accepted, rejected or integrated.”

Importantly, in order to best ensure the quality of our efforts meets the high and entirely reasonable expectations of the Integral Institute, other key requests have also been communicated.  The most critical one, which relates to our scope of activity and the process we use is as follows, again quoted directly from Robb’s communication:

“We all know it is a challenge, and one I’m sure we all gratefully relish.  Therefore, we value patience, discernment and embodied method over speed, shortcuts or building flurried energy for the sake of the great states it induces.  This is what has led us to seeking a market exploration process as a logical first step.”
